FYI … From The Counselor
Wow…Can you believe it is almost Thanksgiving??? Time is just flying by! We are in our 2nd nine week period which will not end until January 15th (after Christmas break).
I wanted to make you aware of a couple of computer programs we are using this year to help remediate students who have made a failing grade for a nine week period. The 6th grade will be using a remedial program called Compass and the 7th/8th grades will be using a remedial program called Plato. Any student who made a failing grade on his/her report card will be assigned to one of these programs two days a week during their exploratory time. If the student successfully completes all of the tutorial sessions and passes the required computerized tests before this nine week period is over, he/she will recover his/her grade for the 1st nine weeks (this means if the tutorial program is completed successfully, the student will receive a 65 D for the first 9 weeks instead of the F posted on the report card).
I have met with all students who made a failing grade the first 9 weeks and explained this program to them. I have also explained their responsibility in completing it. Hopefully, these remedial programs will help the students gain skills that were missed, and help them become more successful in the future.
